The Magic Mountain" was initially intended as a short story. However, twelve years of literary work, observations, and reflections resulted in this work growing into a colossal work. The novel was translated into Polish by Józef Kramsztyk (volume I) and Władysław Tatarkiewicz (volume II) under the pseudonym Jan Łukowski.
